Salisbury Tops MSU in Tri-State Tournament, 8-4

Salisbury, MD - Salisbury starter Nick Dunk tossed seven strong innings allowing just one run as the Sea Gulls picked up their third win of the weekend in the Tri-State Tournament defeating Montclair State 8-4 Sunday afternoon.

Dunk (2-1) allowed seven hits, all singles, while also striking out four and walking two as Salisbury improved to 8-2 on the season.

Montclair State (0-2) got things going in the bottom of the first as shortstop PJ Baccarella (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) singled home sophomore BRIAN BUTLER (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo). The Sea Gulls then tied things up in the second as Trey Cobb doubled home Alex Vitale who reached on a lead off walk.

Salisbury then took the lead for good in the top of the third as Greg Lemon scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 advantage. The Red Hawks battled back in the bottom of the eighth as Baccarella smacked a two run shot to rightfield to pull MSU within two with the score at 5-3. The Sea Gulls then pulled away in the top of the ninth with three runs aided by a wild pitch and a Red Hawk miscue.

Senior Lou Wieben (Secaucus, NJ/St Mary's) took the loss for Montclair. Wieben (0-1) allowed two runs on two hits while also striking out two and walking five. Baccarella finished the afternoon with two hits and three RBI including his first homerun of the season while Butler went 2-5 with a run scored.

Sophomore MIKE HALLIGAN (Pompton Plains, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) was 1-5 with a solo shot.
