Hoboken, NJ (04/14/04) - Junior attack Valerie Barnhart (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) scored six goals to lead Stevens Institute of Technology to a 10-5 win over Montclair State on Wednesday night in a Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference game at DeBaun Field.
Stevens (12-1, 3-0 Knickerbocker) earned its seventh straight win while handing Montclair State (8-1, 2-1 Knickerbocker) its first loss of the season. Freshman
BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) scored three times while
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) added two goals.
The Ducks never trailed in the game. Montclair State tied the game at 3-3 with 12:44 left in the first half on a goal by Brocklebank. But Barnhart scored the next two goals as Stevens took the lead for good. She scored on a free-position shot with 11:43 left and then finished off a pass from junior Rebecca Quinn (Damascus, Md./Damascus) – her 200th career goal – with 7:59 remaining. Senior attack Juliet Pullis (Boonton, N.J./Mountain Lakes) scored off an assist from junior Kim Mirra (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) just 42 seconds later as Stevens carried a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Montclair State pulled to within 7-4 with 26:27 left in the second half on a goal by Gillin, but Stevens scored the next three goals – two by Barnhart – in a span of ten minutes to extend its lead to 10-4. Stevens held a 28-20 advantage in shots.

KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) had a strong game for Montclair State, stopping 14 shots. Sophomore Melissa Scott (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) made eight saves for Stevens.
Stevens is back in action on Saturday, April 17, with a 2 p.m. game at Rowan. Montclair State hosts Kean on Saturday at 1 p.m.
