Women's Lacrosse Cruises PAst Kean

Montclair, NJ (04/17/04) - Junior midfielder ANGELA GIAMPINO (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored a career-high four goals while freshman ANN DAILY (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) added three goals and three assists as Montclair State defeated Kean University, 14-4 in Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) had two goals and four assists for the Red Hawks, who improved to 9-1 (3-1 KWLC) on the year and tied the school record for victories in a season. MSU won nine contests in 2001 at it posted a 9-6 mark.

Freshman Gio Buono (Plainsboro, NJ/WW-Plainsboro) had two goals and assist for the Cougars (5-4, 1-2 KWLC).

Buono put Kean up 1-0 a minute into the contest as she scored on the first shot of the game past Red Hawk goalkeeper KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South). But Montclair responded scoring the last eight goals of the half to lead 8-1. Daily began the scoring at the 2:01 mark and Homiek put Montclair State ahead for good with a tally at 4:21. Giampino scored the next two to extend the lead to three goals before ABBEY MORGAN (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown Friend) scored unassisted with 13:37 left before intermission. Daily tallied her second marker 36 seconds later and Homiek's second goal at 19:31 made the score 7-1. SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) capped off the scoring with a goal with 1:56 to go.

In the second half, the Red Hawks scored the first four goals to make it a 12-0 run as Giampino added her third and fourth of the game. Daily and KRISTEN GISONDI (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) accounted for the other two MSU scores. Buono would end the run as she notched her second of the contest with just under 15 minutes to play.

Kuhmann made 12 saves for Montclair State, including four on free-position attempts. Lydia Pinto (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) also had 12 saves for Kean, which was outshot in the contest, 28-25.
