Montclair Downs Centenary, 10-8

Hackettstown, NJ - Senior midfielder CHRIS MEIXNER (Hambrug, NJ/Vernon) and junior KEVIN GONDRES (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) each scored three times as Montclair State edged Centenary College, 10-8, in NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

JOHN DELLA PESCA (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) had two goals for the Red Hawks (9-2). Reese Baillie (Surrey BC, Canada/ Earl Marriott) and Kevin Parks (Easton, MD / Easton) had two goals apiece for the Cyclons (5-6).

Tied at 1-1 heading into the second, MSU took control scoring three times to take a 4-1 advantage. LUIGI DESIMONE (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) scored with 11:43 to play in the period and Meixner notched his second to give the Red Hawks a two-goal lead. Meixner then added his third on the man-advantage as Montclair led 4-2 at halftime.

Centenary would tie the game at 5-5 late in the third period as Baillie scored unassisted. However, Montclair State responded with the next four goals to pull away. Gondres regained the lead for MSU with 3:44 left in the third and Della Pesca made it 7-5 with 2:44 to play in the period. Della Pesca would score with a man-up midway through the fourth to give Montclair an 8-5 lead before RICH DOYEN (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) had a goal with 6:36 to play.

Parks would score twice to pull Centenary within 9-7, but Gondres put the game away with 2:03 left as he scored on an assist from Doyen. John Leahy (Lowell, MA/Lowell) accounted for the final score of the game with three seconds left.

ALAN ANNAZONE (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made six saves for MSU, which outshot Centenary, 36-24. Ryan Sieckel (Bridgewater / Bridgewater Raritan) had 16 saves.
