Rowan Sweeps MSU, 7-4 & 6-5

Glassboro, NJ - The Profs of Rowan University swept Montclair in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon 7-4 & 6-5.

With the wins Rowan is now in first place in the NJAC with a 12-3 record and are currently 30-5 overall. Montclair State falls to 9-4 in conference play and is 18-10 overall.

In game one, rightfielder ETHAN BOYD (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) went three for four with a double, RBI and run scored. Shortstop PJ Baccarella (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne), catcher ROB BLACKBURN (Sussex, NJ/Vernon) and designated hitter JAY COOK (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) each had an RBI.

Senior Lou Wieben (Secaucus, NJ/St. Mary's) suffered the loss. Wieben (4-2) collected a season high nine strikeouts and also allowed seven runs (five earned)on six hits in 6.1 innings.

Josh Schwartz (Wenonah, NJ/Gateway Reg.) picked up the complete game victory for Rowan. Schwartz (9-0) allowed four runs (zero earned) on seven hits. He also struck out four and walked two.

The Red Hawks struck first plating one run in the second and three in the sixth. Cook walked with the bases loaded in the second for an RBI and a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Boyd drove in the first run with an RBI single and DANNY RODRIGUEZ (South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) later crossed home plate on a Rowan miscue. Blackburn rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice squeeze bunt for the 4-0 advantage.

The Profs then rallied back to tie the game at four. Nick Urbanovich (Rutherford, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) drove in two with a single and designated hitter Jesse Pappler (Southampton, NJ/Lenape Reg.) tied the game with an RBI single.
Rowan then took the lead for good with three runs in the seventh. Mike Rucci (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) provided the go-ahead run with an RBI single.

In game two the Profs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and one in the second. Rucci again provided the offense with a two RBI double in the first.

The Red Hawks then rallied back with two runs as MIKE HALLIGAN (Pompton Plains, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) doubled home two in the fifth.

After Rowan again extended their lead to 6-2, MSU mounted a ninth inning rally with three runs as BRIAN BUTLER (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo Reg.) tripled to leftfield for an RBI and he and Halligan scored on Profs miscues.
