Gogal, Red Hawks Blank No. 6 Ithaca, 6-0

Ithaca, NY - Making his final start in a Red Hawks uniform, senior lefthander JEFF GOGAL (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) did not allow a hi in five innings as Montclair State blanked No. 6 Ithaca College, 3-0, in a five-inning, rain-shortened game on Saturday afternoon.

PAUL SAMMARCO (Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) homered for MSU, which improved to 24-16 while snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Red Hawks two of their three runs in the first inning against Ryan Mays. DANNY RODRIGUEZ (Monmouth, NJ/So. Brunswick) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and moved to third as ETHAN BOYD (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) singled through the right side. PJ Baccarella (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) singled to left to score Rodriguez with the first run. After Sammarco was hit by a pitch to load the bases, MATT BENEDETTI (Summit, NJ/Summit) singled to bring home Boyd.

Montclair got its final run in the fourth as Sammarco belted a leadoff home run, first of the season.

Meanwhile, Gogal was solid as he allowed only two base runners in his five innings. The lefthander struck out three and walked two as he finished 6-2 on the year and 27-6 in his brilliant career. Gogal finished fourth all-time in victories and third in strikeouts as the three he fanned gave him 298 in his career.

Gogal retired the Bombers in order in the fifth. The rains then came and after a 93-minute delay, the game was called.
