The recap below is part of the Red Hawk Retrospective where we chronicle past Fall seasons.
Bethlehem, PA - The Montclair State women's soccer team dropped their 2004 season opener on Wednesday as the Red Hawks lost to Moravian College, 2-1.
LIZ D'ALTO scored the lone Montclair State goal. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute when senior defender Kelly Haymaker lofted a shot over Red Hawk goalie Kristen Kuhmann from 22 yards out. Moravian extended its lead to 2-0 in the 88th minute when freshman midfielder Kristina Larsson found the back of the net off a loose ball at the top of the 18-yard box.
Montclair State pulled within a goal in the 90th minute on an unassisted tally by D'Alto.
Moravian senior goalie Jill Vaccaro made four saves for the victory while Kuhmann had four saves for the Red Hawks. Montclair state did have a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks while both teams had nine shots.
The Red Hawks return to action as they will face Lynchburg College in the opening round of the Haverford Kickoff Classic on Saturday, September 4. Last year, MSU captured the tournament as they defeated Lynchburg, 1-0, in the opener before topping host Haverford, 2-0 in the championship game.
