Allentown, PA (09/11/04) - Freshman
JENNIFER TANIS scored with 32 seconds left before halftime as the Montclair State field hockey team held the lead the rest of the way as the Red Hawks captured the Muhlenberg Invitational with a 1-0 triumph over the host Mules on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
KRISTEN SWARTZ assisted on the goal and goalkeeper
ROBYN APICELLI made seven saves for her first shutout of the season. The victory avenged a one-goal loss to Muhlenberg last season. The win improved MSU's record to 4-0 this season.
Tanis recorded her third goal of the season as she took a pass from Swartz and slid it past Muhlenberg goalkeeper Lauren Schram.
Muhlenberg had an opportunity to tie the game in the second half as they managed to get a shot past Apicelli, however, junior defender Elyse Winkle was there to make the defensive save to preserve the lead and the victory.
MSU was outshot in the game, 7-6, but held a 9-7 advantage in penalty corners. Schram had five saves for the Mules.
Montclair State returns to action as they travel to Mahwah to face Ramapo College in their first NJAC contest of the season. The Roadrunners are playing their first season as a member of the conference. Last year, the Red Hawks posted an 8-0 win at Sprague Field.
