Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 9 TCNJ Blanks Women's Soccer 2-0

Ewing, NJ (09/16/04) - Senior midfielder Stephanie Peters and junior forward Brittany Boyd each scored in The College of New Jersey's women's soccer team's 2-0 triumph over the Red Hawks of Montclair State University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener for both teams on Thursday night.

Picking up its 99th win in Lions' Stadium, TCNJ improves to 4-1-1 overall (1-0 NJAC) and are ranked ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas® Division III poll. MSU remains winless on the year and drops to 0-4 and 0-1 in the conference.

The majority of first-half play took place in the midfield as both teams combined for only six shots. Boyd broke through for the Lions as she corralled a dump pass from senior defender Shannon Scott and put the ball into the lower right corner past the diving Red Hawk goalkeeper at 14:44. TCNJ carried its 1-0 lead into halftime.

Peters added an insurance marker at 55:40 as she picked up sophomore midfielder Lisa Kokotajlo's flick and fired it into the lower-left corner from about five yards out for her fourth of the season. Peters now has four goals and eight points on the season. In the 18th meeting between the two teams, the Lions posted a 14-3 advantage on shots and a 5-1 margin on corner kicks. TCNJ now leads the series history, 16-1-1.

Junior goalkeeper Alissa Kacar recorded her fourth shutout of the season with a pair of stops, while sophomore Kristen Kuhmann picked up six saves in the loss for MSU.
