Red Hawks Fall at Scranton Invitational

Scranton, PA (9/18/04) – The Red Hawks were defeated in four matches at the University of Scranton Tournament on Sept. 17-18. Montclair lost to Stevens Tech and Wilkes (PA) the first day by 3-0 scores, and then dropped a 3-0 decision to Haverford (PA) and a 3-1 contest to Mt. Aloysius the next day in falling to 3-10 overall (0-1 NJAC). TIFFANY ACIZ led MSU in kills twice, and had 42 total kills.

KELLY MCGUIRE paced MSU against Stevens with nine kills, while ELYSE GRYWALSKI posted 15 assists and Aciz recorded three service aces and three digs. The Ducks defeated the Red Hawks, 30-26, 30-19 and 30-20.

Aciz then registered 13 kills versus Wilkes, while Grywalski chalked up 25 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Wilkes upended MSU by scores of 30-23, 31-29 and 30-27.

Aciz then notched nine digs, eight kills and three assists against Haverford, as the Hawks won 30-16, 30-17 and 30-19, before tallying 17 kills in the finale vs. Mt. Aloysius. HEATHER ACIZ led MSU with 18 kills against the Mounties, while Grywalski finished with a team-best 38 assists and 10 digs. MSU lost Game One, 30-28 before rebounding for a 30-22 victory, but then fell by 30-17 and 30-23 scores to close out the tournament.

Montclair hosts Kean University in an NJAC match on Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. at Panzer Gym, before visiting New Jersey City University on Sept. 23 and SUNY Purchase on Sept. 25 in a pair of non-conference contests.
