Montclair, NJ (9/21/04) – The Montclair State University volleyball team snapped a nine-match winless streak with tonight's 3-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference victory over Kean University at Panzer Gymnasium.
Kean took the first game, 30-26, but Montclair rebounded to post 30-22, 30-20 and 34-32 wins in improving to 4-10 overall and 1-1 in NJAC play. Kean fell to 1-8 on the year and 0-2 in the conference.
It was the first time the Red Hawks have defeated the Cougars in nine meetings dating back to 1998, when MSU topped Kean in the first round of that year's NJAC Tournament.
Senior hitter 
TIFFANY ACIZ paced Montclair State with 16 kills and 12 digs in the four games, while sophomore hitter 
HEATHER ACIZ posted 13 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Sophomore setter 
ELYSE GRYWALSKI recorded 35 assists and 11 digs for the Red Hawks, while junior hitter 
KELLY MCGUIRE contributed 11 digs and four blocks, and sophomore hitter 
ASIA LIVINGSTON chalked up seven kills, seven digs and three aces.
Sophomore hitter Elizabeth Bauer led the Cougars with nine kills and five service aces, and also added 15 digs. Senior setter Evelina Trzeciak collected 25 assists and 21 digs for Kean, while junior libero Kayla Hauser came up with 27 digs, senior hitter Iwona Janiak registered 24 digs, and freshman hitter Jonta Stevens put up seven kills and four blocks.
MSU gets back to work on Thursday when it visits former NJAC rival New Jersey City University at 7:00 p.m. The Red Hawks swept the Gothic Knights, 3-0, last fall at Panzer Gym. Kean is slated to participate in the Lycoming (PA) Tournament on Sept. 24-25.
