Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight with 1-0 Win Over NYU

New York, NY (09/27/04) – The Montclair State University women's soccer team continued its winning ways on Monday evening as the Red Hawks won their third straight with a 1-0 victory over New York University.

Junior forward RUBY RUSSELL netted the game-winner as she scored her first goal of the season. The win upped Montclair State's record to 3-4 on the season and was MSU's first win against the Violets since the 2000 ECAC Metro Championship game, also a 1-0 win. Last season, NYU, which had its five-game win streak snapped, defeated Montclair, 2-1, in overtime.

With just over 15 minutes remaining, Russell collected a loose ball and launched a shot that found the inside of the far post.

Sophomore goalkeeper KRISTIN KUHMANN, who was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, finished with four saves in recording her third straight shutout.

Montclair State outshot the Violets (4-4-1), 9-6, and collected the match's lone corner kick. Katie Barnes made three saves for New York University.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 2, as they travel to Ramapo College to face the Roadrunners in a New Jersey Athletic Conference matchup. MSU is currently 2-1 in the NJAC.
