Montclair, NJ (01/12/05) - A three-game win streak by the Montclair State University women's basketball team came to an end tonight as the Red Hawks fell to The College of New Jersey, 64-52, in NCAA Division III action at Panzer Gymnasium.
The visiting Lions improved to 11-2 on the year and 6-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with their 10th consecutive victory since Dec. 1, while Montclair fell to 8-5 on the season and 3-3 in NJAC play. It was also the Lions' third straight win over the Red Hawks following a two-step sweep last season.
TCNJ junior guard Alexa Shields scored 14 of her game-high 18 points in the second half and added four assists to lead the Lions, who bolstered a 38-36 lead with 15:03 remaining in regulation on a 19-4 run that left the visitors ahead by a 57-40 count with 4:16 left.
Senior guard Sofia Ojeda finished with 12 points for TCNJ, connecting three times from three-point range in the second half as the Lions led by as many as 17 points.

AMANDA MULLANEY paced MSU with 12 points and added four rebounds as the Red Hawks fell for the first time since Dec. 17.
There were six ties and 10 lead changes in the opening half tonight, which ended with the two schools tied at 27-27.

JENNIFER RUSSELL finished with a game-best nine rebounds on the night, as did TCNJ sophomore forward Breanne Depken.
Montclair State returns to NJAC play this Saturday afternoon at Richard Stockton College, while the Lions host Rutgers-Newark that same day. MSU and TCNJ will meet again on Feb. 16 at Packer Gymnasium in Ewing, NJ.
