LAMONT NEWELL and junior forward
GIAN PAUL GONZALEZ combined for 52 points and 19 rebounds to lift the Red Hawks past host Kean University, 83-69, in New Jersey Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday evening.
The victory, Montclair's eighth straight, improved MSU to 10-5 overall, 5-2 in the NJAC, while the Cougars dropped to 10-6 overall, 4-4 in the conference.
Newell scored 27 points, connecting on all four of his three-pointers, and had a team-high 10 rebounds, while Gonzalez had 25 points and hit 17-of-20 from the foul line.
As a team, Montclair State converted 34-of-42 free throws and shot 52.6 percent from the floor for the game. In the victory, senior forward
MICHAEL GLUCK added 16 points, knocking down 7-of-11 shots from the floor, while junior guard
JAMAL FORD, had 10 points, four assists and three steals.
For the Cougars, junior forward Armet Coles had 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals to lead four players in double-figures. Junior forward BJ Hamby had 13 points, and senior guard Tan Kesler and sophomore guard Bryan Miller had 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, January 22 as the Red Hawks host Rowan University at 3:00 pm as part of Basketball Alumni Day at Panzer Gymnasium. Earlier this month, MSU defeated the Profs in overtime, 75-69, the Red Hawks first win in Glassboro since 1995.
