Montclair, NJ (10/12/05) – Sophomore midfielder Domenick Raimo scored once and assisted on another as Richard Stockton knocked off Montclair State, 4-2 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Soccer action at a rainy Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
The Ospreys upped their record to 11-4 overall, 4-2 in the NJAC with their sixth straight win. Montclair State, which has dropped three of its last four contests, fell to 8-5-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the conference.
The Ospreys wasted little time getting on the board as they scored just under four minutes (3:55) into the game. Raimo battled for a loose ball along the end line and rifled a pass across the goalmouth on to the foot of Ray Nelson, who tapped in the pass for his fifth goal of the season. Stockton then extended the lead to 2-0 at the 24:51 mark as A.J. Colubiale notched his first tally of the season off an assist from Dan Morse.
Montclair State would cut the deficit in half with 9:18 to play. Junior
RYAN MORGAN took control of a served ball and drove toward the net before sliding a pass to wide open
ILYAS TASCI on the right side. Tasci banged home the shot for his sixth goal of the season and third in the last three games. But Stockton quickly restored the lead to 3-1 at 41:21 as Matt Lewis fed Raimo, who scored from five yards out just inside the near post for his seventh goal of the year.
In the second half, Scott Adams added a penalty kick goal, his 13th, to put Richard Stockton up 4-1 with 21:03 to play. Montclair's
MIKE HOGAN rounded out the scoring for the Red Hawks with his third of the season at 89:36.
Tim McKenna made three saves for the Ospreys, while MSU goalkeeper
CHRIS OWEN had two. MSU outshot Richard Stockton, 15-9 and held a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 15 as they begin a three-match road trip starting in Glassboro, NJ where they will face Rowan University in an NJAC matchup at 2:30 pm. Richard Stockton is home on the same day with a conference contest against Ramapo College at 1:00 pm.
