Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Kelly Guides No. 12 MSU Past Ramapo, 4-0

Montclair, NJ (10/15/05) –  Senior ALEXANDRIA KELLY registered a goal and an assist as 12 th-ranked Montclair State posted its fifth straight win with a 4-0 victory over Ramapo College in New Jersey Athletic Conference field hockey action at Sprague Field on Monday evening. The game was a makeup of a September 14 rainout.

KRISTEN SWARTZ , JEN SOSS and Jaimie Lukacs each had goals as the Red Hawks improved to 12-1 on the season. Katelyn Ferguson made 17 saves for Ramapo (3-8), which has lost three straight.

Montclair State dominated in the shot column as the Red Hawks posted 29 to five for the Roadrunners', however, it was Ferguson who helped keep the game scoreless. She stopped a trio of point-blank attempts just under three minutes into the contest and later denied Kelly on a penalty stroke.

But the Red Hawks kept the pressure up and finally broke through on a penalty corner as Soss knocked home a rebound from the right side at 20:31 for her fourth goal of the season and second in as many games. That's the way the game would stay heading into halftime as Ferguson made 12 saves in the first half.

In the second period, MSU pulled away with three goals, the first by Kelly, who was named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. The senior slid in a loose ball for her eight goal of the year. Just under four minutes later, Montclair extended the lead to three goals as Swartz got her eighth of the season, tipping in a pass from JENNIFER TANIS .

Montclair State then closed out the scoring with 2:16 to play as Kelly stole a pass at the 35 yardline and moved within eight yards before flipping a pass across the goal mouth to Lukacs, who slid the ball inside the near post for her first goal of the season and fourth in her career.

ROBYN APICELLI made three saves as she posted her second straight shutout, eighth of the year and 13 th in her two-plus seasons as the Red Hawk goalkeeper.

The Red Hawk return to action on Wednesday, October 19 as they travel to New Paltz, NY to face the Hawks of SUNY-New Paltz (7:00 pm). Ramapo returns home for a conference matchup with Richard Stockton on Saturday, October 22 ( 1:00 pm .)
