HEATHER ACIZ set a new single-match record kills with 31 as Montclair State kept its hope for an NJAC Tournament berth alive with a five-set victory over Ramapo College at Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Ramapo won the first game,30-27 before MSU took the next two, 31-29 and 30-20.
Ramapo would even the match with a 32-30 triumph in Game No. 4, but the Red Hawks captured the deciding contest, 15-9.
Aciz added 27 digs and three service aces as the Red Hawks snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 9-14 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Ramapo fell to 11-8 and 2-4 in the NJAC. The win keeps the Red Hawks in the hunt for one of the final spots in the NJAC Tournament which begins on November 2.
Aciz, who posted a .322hitting efficiency in the match, broke the single-match kill mark of 26 set by Dolly Koshy against William Paterson in 1996.

JULIANA FERDINAND had nine kills and 15 digs while fellow classmate
SAMANTHA KARPINSKI had eight kills and eight digs. Sophomore setter Melissa Ciacccio registered 48 assists and 13 digs while
RAQUEL PICHARDO and
JANIELLE SANCHEZ each had 19 digs.
ZAIRY RAMOS collected five kills, three aces and 16 digs.
Montclair State closes out their regular season on Saturday, October 22 as they head to Baruch College for a tri-match. MSU will face Baruch at 10:00 am before taking on Hunter College at Noon. Ramapo will travel to York(NY) on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 pm.
