Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Amendola Guides Women's Soccer Past Rutgers-Camden

Montclair, NJ (10/22/05) – Senior JESS AMENDOLA had a hand in all three Montclair State goals, including the game winner with 4:26 left in the first overtime as the Red Hawks edged Rutgers-Camden, 3-2, in New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Soccer action at MSU Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon.

Amendola had two goals and an assist as the Red Hawks (6-8-3, 3-2-3 NJAC) won for the first time since September 28, a span of seven games. Katlyn Pagaduan and Allyson Jones, had goals for the Scarlet Raptors (11-7, 4-4 NJAC).

In the extra period, NICOLE KOGUT connected on a direct kick that clanged off the crossbar. The ball came out to JENNIFER KELLEHER, who tapped a pass to Amendola for the game-winning goal.

Amendola gave Montclair State a 1-0 lead 54 seconds into the game as she drilled a shot from the top of the box into the upper right corner for her seventh of the season. It was MSU's first offensive score in 568 minutes dating back to October 1 (MSU tied Richard Stockton, 1-1 on Oct. 8 on an own goal).

Rutgers-Camden would get the score back at 31:35 when Pagaduan was taken down inside the scoring area and awarded a penalty kick. The senior stepped up fired a shot that just beat an outstretched KRISTIN KUHMANN inside the right post.

But Montclair State answered just over two minutes later. Amendola moved the ball within 10 yards on the left side, firing a shot that goalkeeper Therese Comella deflected. The ball bounced out to MEGAN BROWN, who tapped in the shot into the open net for her first collegiate goal. Montclair State took the 2-1 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Rutgers-Camden had an opportunity to tie the game as they were awarded a second penalty kick with 19:22 to play. However, Katie' O'Connor's attempt went high leaving Montclair State in front. The play didn't hurt the Scarlet Raptors as 68 seconds later Jones collected a loose ball and fired a 15-yard shot into the upper right side of the goal, tying the game at 2-2.

Comella made eight saves for Rutgers-Camden, which was outshot in the game, 15-6. Kuhmann had three saves for Montclair.

MSU returns to action on Wednesday, October 26 as Montclair State closes out NJAC play with a 7:00 contest in Newark against Rutgers-Newark. The Scarlet Raptors are at Baptist Bible College on Monday, October 24 at 3:00 pm.
