Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 14 Montclair Blanks 19th-Ranked Kean

Union, NJ (10/5/05) - Montclair State University sophomore forward JENNIFER TANIS jammed home a rebound off a shot by ALEXANDRIA KELLY midway through the first half to lift MSU to a 2-0 victory over Kean University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) field hockey action on Wednesday evening. With the win, the 14th ranked Red Hawks improved to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC, while 19th ranked Kean falls to 8-4, 1-2 in conference play.

The Cougars almost tied the score with less than 10 minutes left in the first half when Caitlin Slemmer dribbled around MSU goalie ROBYN APICELLI and fired a shot toward the cage. However, junior back KIM DEMKOWICZ cleared the would-be-goal off the line to preserve the Red Hawks lead.

With 19:10 left in the game, Montclair freshman midfielder JESS ROSEWALL added an insurance tally when she scored unassisted on an awkward angled shot from the right side of the circle.

In the cage, Cougar senior goalkeeper Concetta Valerio stopped three shots, while Apicelli made nine saves.

The Red Hawks return to action on Tuesday, October 11 as they host Drew University at Sprague Field for a 7:00 pm. start.
