Montclair, NJ (10/8/05) - Sophomore forward
MATT BEHEN scored once and assisted on another goal as Montclair State snapped a two-match losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Mitchell College in NCAA Division III Men's Soccer action at a rain-soaked Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
ILYAS TASCI and
CHRIS D'AMATO each scored for the Red Hawks (8-4-1), which outshot Mitchell, 29-4 and held a 17-0 advantage in corner kicks. David Olszewski had three saves for the Pequots (3-8).
Behen got MSU on the board at 5:36 as he intercepted a loose ball and moved in 1-on-1 toward the net before flipping a shot over the head of Olszewski for his second goal of the season. Behen then provided the assist on
TODD TUMELTY's goal at 12:33 and Tasci netted his fifth of the year at 15 minutes to put the Red Hawk in front, 3-0.
D'Amato capped Montclair State's scoring with 14:43 to play in the second half as he scored his first collegiate goal.
NICK MELE and
GABE MERLA combined to make three saves as Montclair State posted its fifth shutout of the season.
The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, October 12 as they return to Sprague Field to take on Richard Stockton College in an NJAC matchup at 7:00 pm.
