Pomona, NJ (10/8/05) - Montclair State benefited from a late "own goal" to salvage a 1-1 tie with Richard Stockton in a NJAC women's soccer game played in driving rain and wind this afternoon. The Ospreys dominated statistically, outshooting Montclair 19-2, but the Red Hawks used the Stockton miscue and the strong play of goalkeeper
KRISTIN KUHMANN to forge the 1-1 deadlock. Kuhmann made 11 saves in the game while freshman goalie Alex Rogers made her first career start and registered one save for Stockton.
With the wind at its back, Stockton controlled the play in the first half and took a 1-0 lead at 28:38 on a 20-yard shot by Allysa Bollaci from the right wing that sailed into the top left corner of the goal. In the second half, Stockton outshot Montclair State 10-1 but could not get the ball past Kuhmann who made seven saves in the period.
With just 3:14 remaining in regulation, Montclair's
DARA NALVEN served a free kick into a crowd of players in the penalty area. The ball skipped off the head of a Stockton defender and banked in off the post to tie the game at 1-1. The teams then played two uneventful 10-minute overtime periods that yielded only one total shot for the 1-1 final score. Including today, nine of the last ten meetings between Stockton and Montclair State have gone into overtime.
Montclair State will visit 25th-ranked Stevens Tech for a non-league game on Wednesday at 7 pm.
