Mullaney, Machin Post Double-Doubles in Win

Box Score Montclair, NJ (11/22/05) – Junior forward STEPHANIE MACHIN posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds and senior center AMANDA MULLANEY added one of her own with 10 points and 14 boards as Montclair State opened up its New Jersey Athletic Conference slate with a 62-45 win over New Jersey City University at Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.

MICHELLE MADEJ had 12 points for the Red Hawks, who improved to 2-1 on the season. Arnese Goodman had 16 points and six rebounds for NJCU, which suffered its first loss and fell to 2-1. The Gothic Knights were playing their first NJAC contest following a one-year hiatus from the league.

Montclair State built a 29-15 halftime lead thanks in part of 11-1 run over the final 6:24 of the half. Madej had five points in the run and AMY BONK came off the bench to score four as the Red Hawks took the 14-point cushion into the break. In the second half, MSU would lead by as many as 18 points as CYNTHIA WARRINGTON connected once from the free throw line for a 41-23 lead with just under 13 minutes to play.

But the Gothic Knights would rally and cut the lead to 43-36 as Latrese McNair and Elizabeth Amadeo hit back-to-back three-pointers with 9:21 to play. After the teams traded baskets, the Red Hawks would pull away with a 12-0 run over a four-minute span to restore the lead to 58-39 with 3:07 left. Mullaney had four points as did Madej while Machin converted a fast break with a layup.

JESSICA HORAN finished with six points, four assists and four steals for MSU, which held a huge 47-29 advantage on the boards. Warrington had six points and three assists and Bonk added six points. Madej also added a pair of blocks while Mullaney had three of her own along with four steals. Montclair State shot 47 percent (25-of-53) from the field for the game.

Megan Kabba had eight points and three steals for NJCU, which shot just 16 percent (4-of-25) in the first half and finished the game at 26 percent (13-of-50). McNair and Andrea Jean Yudin each contributed six points.

Montclair State returns to action on Monday, November 28 as they travel to the nation's capital for a 7:00 pm matchup with Catholic University.
