STEPHANIE MACHIN (right) scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half to pace Montclair State to a 54-49 New Jersey Athletic Conference women's basketball victory over Rutgers-Newark in The Golden Dome.
A pair of Machin free throws knotted the score at 40-40 with 10:15 left in the tight game before sophomore guard
JESSICA GARRABRANT, who finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, put the Red Hawks (3-3, NJAC 2-1) up for good at 42-40 with 8:53 left. A Machin layup at 1:17 put the game out of reach at 52-44.
Freshman guard
MEGHAN KELLEY finished with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench for the Red Hawks who also got five assists and four steals from freshman guard
MARIANNE MCGOVERN. Machin collected eight rebounds and made a game-high five steals.
Sophomore point guard Nerlande Nicolas paced the Scarlet Raiders (3-2, NJAC 2-1) with 16 points while freshman guard Youngor Kehleay added 13 points.
