Balanced Efforts Sends Women's Basketball Past Rutgers-Camden

Camden, NJ (2/5/05) - Freshman CYNTHIA WARRINGTON scored a game-high 13 points to lead five players in double figures as Montclair State posted its third straight victory with a 76-47 victory over Rutgers-Camden in NJAC Women's Basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman guard JESSICA HORAN added 11 points and five assists for the Red Hawks, who improved to 12-8 overall, 7-6 in the conference. The victory also gave MSU a sweep of the season series between the teams as the Red Hawks posted a 62-44 win in Montclair back on November 29.

Megan Rulon had 12 points for the Scarlet Raptors, who dropped their eighth straight and fell to 6-16, 1-12 in the NJAC.

Rutgers-Camden scored the first four points of the game and led 7-4 just under three minutes into the contest before Montclair State went on a 19-3 run over the next six minutes to take control for good.

Horan sank consecutive three-pointers to put the Red Hawks in front and freshman JESSICA GARRABRANT added a layup following a Lisa Geiger basket for a 12-9 MSU lead. STEPHANIE MACHIN scored four straight and AMANDA MULLANEY added another four points to push the lead to 20-10 with 11:38 left before halftime. Warrington then capped the run with a three-point play as Montclair took a 43-27 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Red Hawks opened with a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 55-27. Machin and Garrabrant each had four points in the spurt with Horan adding another three pointer in between.

Machin and Mullaney each finished with 10 points as did SHIKEENA LYNARD, who also added five rebounds and two assists off the bench. Freshman JENNIFER RUSSELL had eight points and five assists as MSU shot 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the floor in the contest, including 7-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Krystal Jankowski had 10 points for Rutgers-Camden, which converted only 15 of its 48 shots. Carmen Zimitt had eight points and seven rebounds.

The Red Hawks are back in action on Monday, February 7 as they will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA to face 15th-ranked Kings College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
