No. 9 King's Snaps Women's Basketball Winning Streak

Wilkes-Barre, PA (2/07/05) - The King's College women's basketball team held visiting Montclair State to a season-low 43 points as the 12-ranked Lady Monarchs posted a 60-43 victory Monday in Scandlon Gymnasium,

With the win, King's improved to 19-2 on the year, while Montclair slipped to 12-9 as its three-game win streak came to an end.

Beth Jordan netted a pair of early baskets as King's built an 8-0 lead and would hold the Red Hawks without a point until JESSICA GARRABRANT hit a short jumper with 13:12 left in the half.

Montclair would close to within 10-9 on back-to-back baskets by FERIN CATLETT and STEPHANIE MACHIN with 9:04 left. King's, however, would close out the half with a 17-4 run, capped by consecutive three-pointers from Ashley Whitehead and Colette Makoweic to take a 27-13 lead into the locker room.

In the second stanza the Lady Monarchs started with a 7-2 spurt to build a 34-15 lead on a pair of buckets from Yeasted and a three-pointer from Lauren Bonnani. After Montclair closed to within 36-20 on a CYNTHIA WARRINGTON trey, King's used a pair of foul shots from Yeasted and a jumper from Jordan to take its biggest lead of the game at 40-20 with 14:06 remaining.

Substituting freely, King's would continue to maintain a comfortable lead as the Red Hawks would draw no closer than14 points when AMANDA MULLANEY hit a pair of foul shots with 0:40 left in the contest to bring Montclair to within 57-43. But Ann Orelli canned a three-pointer with 0:25 left to bring the game to its final margin of 60-43.

King's, which is ranked 12th nationally in scoring defense (49.9), held Montclair to its lowest point output of the year. The Red Hawks previous low was in a 51-44 loss to Rutgers-Newark on January 29. Montclair shot just 20.8 (5-24) percent from the field in the first half and 32.7 (17-52) percent for the game. The Lady Monarchs also forced 26 Red Hawk turnovers. It also marked the seventh time this season King's has held an opponent to under 50 points.

King's, which had 11 players register 10 or more minutes of action, was led by Jordan with 13 points, nine boards, six assists, and five steals. Yeasted followed with 10 points and four rebounds. Bonanni and Whitehead added nine points each while Orelli and Spitler chipped in with seven and six points respectively.

Montclair was paced by Machin with 10 points and six boards while Garrabrant followed with nine points and seven rebounds. Warrington added eight points while Catlett netted six points.
