Warth, Stringer Help MSU Snap Skid; Red Hawks Down Suffolk, 6-1

Clearwater, FL  - Senior first baseman TOMMY WARTH went 3-for-4 while freshman TIM STRINGER (right) pitched six strong innings as the Montclair State baseball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 6-1win over Suffolk University at the Clearwater Invitational on Tuesday.

MARC DECASTRO drove in a pair of runs for the Red Hawks, who improved to 2-4 overall and 2-2 on their eight-game Florida trip.

Stringer, making his first collegiate start went six innings allowing two hits and one run. He struck out nine and walked three as he retired 15 of the final 18 hitter she faced.

Suffolk jumped on top with a run in the first as Mike McGuire walked, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Batchelder.Montclair would tie the game in the fifth as PAUL SAMMARCO walked and KEVIN CUOZZI singled. DANNY RODRIGUEZ then loaded the bases with a bunt single and pinch-runner JAMES SCELZO scored on a double-play grounder tying the game at1-1.

The following inning, MSU broke the game open with five runs. BRIAN BUTLER and MICHAEL NUNES singled to open the inning and Warth delivered Butler with a base hit to put MSU in front. MATT BENEDETTI then doubled home a run and Rodriguez lofted a sacrifice fly to score Warth, putting the Red Hawks up 4-1. Benedetti would scoreo n an error and DeCastro singled home ROB BLACKBURN with the final run.

Rodriguez was 2-for-4 as was Cuozzi as MSU collected 12 hits in the game.
