SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (right) scored four goals, but it wasn't enough as the Montclair State women's lacrosse team suffered their first loss of the season, dropping a 12-10 decision to McDaniel College on Tuesday evening.
BRIANNA GILLIN had two goals and two assists for MSU, which fell to 2-1 on the season.
The Red Hawks led for most of the first half and took a a 6-3 lead with a three-goal spurt just over 10 minutes into the period. Gillin scored a pair of goals 62 seconds apart to put MSU up, 5-3. Brocklebank then netted her first at the 21:15 mark for the three-goal margin.
Brocklebank's second goal with 2:29 made the score 7-4, but McDaniel countered with four straight goals bridging the first and second halves to take an 8-7 lead on Connie Wuenschel's tally at the 35:24 mark.
The team's then traded goals with MSU's
ERIN BALINT forging a 9-9 tie with 14:33 to play, however, Wuenschel and Tara Smith scored to push McDaniel back in front, 11-9. Brocklebank scored once more with 22 seconds left to bring the Red Hawks within 11-10, but Jillian Farrell closed the door on MSU in the closing seconds.
KRISTEN KUHMANN had 18 saves for Montclair State while McDaniel goalkeeper Lindsay O'Steen made 10 stops. McDaniel outshot MSU, 30-15.
The Red Hawks close out their mini-schedule in Florida on Thursday as they face Dickinson College at 9:30 am. MSU then returns home to face Muhlenberg in Allentown, PA on Tuesday, March 22.
