Allentown, PA (3/22/05) - Sophomore attack
BRIANNA GILLIN had scored six goals and assisted on two others as the Montclair State women's lacrosse team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 15-9 win over Muhlenberg College at Scotty Wood Stadium on Tuesday.
NICOLE LAROCCA had three goals and two assists for the Red Hawks (3-2), who also got a pair of goals and an assist from sophomore
ANN DAILY.
MSU led 4-3 at halftime, but quickly pushed the lead to five as it scored the first four goals of the period. LaRocca opened the scored 1:26 into the period and Gillin notched her second of the game at 38:06 for a 6-3 lead.
ANGELA GIAMPINO added a goals 25 seconds later and Gillin recorded the hat trick at 39:16.
Muhlenberg would cut the lead to 9-6 with 13:47 left as a Kelli Sakonchick scored un assisted. However, the Red Hawks quickly responded with another four-goal run to put the game away. Gillin, LaRocca, Daily and
JENNIFER TANIS each found the back of the net as MSU built a 13-6 advantage with 7:33 to play.
KRISTEN KUHMANN made 14 saves for the Red Hawks, which outshot the Mules, 32-25 in the contest. LaRocca collected three ground balls and had five draws while
DINA MORRONE had five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
CRISTIN BENTZ led Montclair with four caused turnovers.
Katie Reimann had three goals for Muhlenberg (3-2) while goalkeeper Diana Bleakley stopped six shots.
Daily put Montclair State up 1-0 5:44 into the game as she scored of an assist from Gillin.
NICOLE ROSELLE made the scored 2-0 at the 7:36 mark before Muhlenberg got on the board. Remimann scored with 19:21 left in the opening period, but Gillin got her first for a 3-1 lead. Courtney Tapkas and MSU's
BETHANY BLAINE traded goals toa 4-2 Red Hawk lead before Reimann scored with 7:32 before half giving Montclair a one-goal lead heading to intermission.
The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, March 24 as they host the Devils of FDU-Florham at Sprague Field for a 4:00 pm start.
