LaRocca Scores Five as Women's Lacrosse Tops Elizabethtown

Montclair, NJ (03/05/05) – Sophomore midfielder NICOLE LAROCCA scored five goals for the second consecutive contest as Montclair State University defeated visiting Elizabethtown (PA) College, 18-7, today in NCAA Division III women's lacrosse action at Sprague Field.

Montclair State improves to 2-0 overall this season, while Elizabethtown falls to 0-2.

Sophomore attack BRIANNA GILLIN scored four goals for the host Red Hawks, while classmate SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK tallied two goals and set up four others. Freshman midfielder JENNIFER TANIS and sophomore ANN DAILY each scored twice for MSU, which outshot Elizabethtown, 34-21.

Sophomore goalkeeper KRISTEN KUHMANN picked up her second win of the season for the Red Hawks, making five saves in just under 50 minutes of play before giving way to junior reliever JENN BOGIN, who finished with one stop in just over 10 minutes work. Senior midfielder ANGELA GIAMPINO had a goal and an assist for MSU, while freshmen BETHANY BLAINE and NICOLE ROSELLE each scored her first career goal.

Senior attack Liz Fretz tallied four of Elizabethtown's seven goals, including her first just 2:56 into the contest to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. MSU then scored the next four goals in just over 14 minutes to take the lead for good en route to an 8-3 halftime advantage. The Red Hawks scored twice on five free position shots in the game, while the Blue Jays went 3-for-10, with Fretz getting two of those.

Junior goalkeeper Kelly O'Connor made nine saves for Elizabethtown, giving her 24 total saves in two games so far this season.

Montclair State returns to action at Western Connecticut on March 10, while Elizabethtown is off until visiting FDU-Florham on March 19.
