Balanced Effort Sends Women's Lacrosse Past Centenary, 19-2

Montclair, NJ (4/21/05) – Sophomores NICOLE LAROCCA (right) and BRIANNA GILLIN each scored three times as Montclair State got goals from nine different players in a 19-2 rout of Centenary College in Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference action at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.

ANN DAILY had two goals and four assists for the Red Hawks (9-3, 3-1 KWLC), who scored the first 10 goals of the game in winning for the seventh time in their last eight games. Dana Pizzi and Clare Johnson had goals for the Cyclones (0-10, 0-3 KWLC).

Montclair State needed just over two minutes to get on the board as BETHANY BLAINE scored off a Daily assist with 27:56 to play. LaRocca scored 52 seconds later and Blaine recorded her second of the game with 24:56 remaining as MSU built a 3-0 lead. LaRocca and SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK scored 24 seconds apart to put MSU in front by five and Daily's first goal with 19:37 left made the score, 6-0. La Rocca got the hat trick 42 seconds later and Gillin added her first with 16:23 to play as Montclair led by eight. KATY MAYER scored her first goal of the season with just over eight minutes to play before half and NICOLE ROSELLEcapped off the MSU scoring with a goal with just under seven minutes left.

Centenary finally broke through with seven seconds before halftime as Pizzi scored on a free-position attempt. Johnson's goal early in the second half made the score 10-2. Montclair then ran off the final nine goals, including two each by Gillin, ANGELA GIAMPINO and JOCELYN RITTER.

MSU goalkeepers KRISTEN KUHMANNand JENN BOGIN split the game in half with Bogin making a pair of saves. Tina Pagano had 11 saves for the Cyclones.

Montclair outshot Centenary, 34-5 and collected 14 of the 23 draws in the game. The Red Hawks also won the ground ball battle, 23-10.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Glassboro to face Rowan University at 1:00 pm.
