Women's Lacrosse Throttles Kean in KWLC Semifinals

 Montclair, NJ (4/27/05) – Freshman midfielder Jen Tanis sophomore attack BRIANNA GILLIN each scored four goals as second-seeded Montclair State throttled No. 3 seed Kean University, 19-4, in the semifinals of the Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference Tournament at Sprague Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Hawks will now advance to Saturday's championship game for the second straight season and will face either No. 1 seed and defending champion Stevens or No. 4 seed Manhattanville. Those two teams will square off on Wednesday evening in Hoboken . The site of the April 30 th championship will be at the highest remaining seed. Last year, MSU fell to Stevens, 9-5 in the inaugural KWLC title contest. BETHANY BLAINE and NICOLE LAROCCA each had three goals for Montclair , while Tina Broomfield had two goals for the Cougars. The victory by Montclair (11-4) was the Red Hawks' 11 th this season, tying the single-season mark set last season. Kean falls to 10-5 overall for the second time this season the Cougars fall to the Red Hawks. Montclair rallied for an 11-8 win over Kean in the teams' regular-season meeting in Union on April 16 th.

Montclair State jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Daily, Tanis and SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK scored in the first four minutes of the contest. Kean's Broomfield scored at the 4:55 mark to cut the lead to two, however, the Red Hawks scored three times in the next 56 seconds to build a 6-1 advantage. Brocklebank scored off a Tanis assist at 7:06 and LaRocca netted two goals off assists from Blaine and Brocklebank 20 seconds apart for the five-goal cushion. Blaine 's goal at 8:52 extended the lead to 7-1 before Gillin scored three of the next six MSU scores as the Red Hawks led 13-1 with 12:32 remaining before half. Gillin began the run with 18:11 to play and Tanis put in two straight 29 seconds apart for a 10-1 lead. LaRocca got her hat trick at the 17:07 mark and Gillin's two goals within a minute of each of other gave MSU the comfortable lead as it led 14-3 at half. Meanwhile the MSU defense was dominating as it limited the Cougars to just 17 shots and kept Kean scoreless in the second half until Broomfield 's second tally with 14 seconds remaining.

KRISTEN KUHMANN made five saves for MSU before giving way to JENN BOGIN, who made four saves in the final 15 minutes. Erin Scercy-McGill had 12 saves for Kean after entering the game in the first half. Lydia Pinto had one stop.
