Women's Lacrosse Downs Susquehanna for Fourth Straight Win

Montclair, NJ (4/5/05) - Sophomore attacker BRIANNA GILLIN scored five times and sophomore midfielder NICOLE LAROCCA added four goals as Montclair State won its fourth straight with a 16-5 victory over Susquehanna University in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action on Wednesday evening.

SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK added three goals for the Red Hawks (6-2), who scored the first seven goals of the contest en route to the victory. Kaitlyn McInnis had three goals for the Crusaders (4-3), who had their four-game win streak snapped.

After a scoreless eight minutes of the game, MSU got on the scoreboard with 21:27 left as Gillin scored unassisted. JENNIFER TANIS scored 18 seconds later and Brocklebank's first goal with 17:48 to play made the score, 3-0. ERIN BALINT gave Montclair a four-goal lead and Gillin's second tally of the period pushed the Montclair advantage to 5-0. LaRocca netted her first with 10:44 to go and Gillin recorded the hat trick with 7:51 remaining as the Red Hawks built a 7-0 lead. Susquehanna would get two goals back as Kristen Reineke scored with 4:11 to go before half and Chrissy Carfello scored with 1:54 on the clock, cutting the deficit to 7-2. LaRocca then scored off a free position attempt with 1:13 left as Montclair State took an 8-2 lead into the break.

McInnis' second goal just over three minutes into the period brought the Crusaders within 8-3, however, MSU scored the next five goals to put the game away. ANN DAILY tallied a pair of scores around Gillin's fourth goal and LaRocca had consecutive scores as the MSU lead grew to 13-3 with 13:20 to go.

Montclair State's KRISTEN KUHMANN made 15 saves for Montclair State while Susquehanna goalkeeper Abby Goss made six saves.

MSU outshot the Crusaders, 33-25.

The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, April 7 as they open Knickerbocker Conference play against Manhattanville College at Sprague Field at 4:00 pm.
