Fourth Quarter Rally Leads Men's Lacrosse Past Stockton

Montclair, NJ (4/6/05) - Senior midfielder SEAN PEKARSKY scored twice and assisted on a third in as Montclair State scored all five in goals in the final period, handing previously unbeaten Richard Stockton a 12-10 loss in Knickerbocker Men's Lacrosse Conference action on Wednesday evening at Sprague Field.

KEVIN GONDRES collected three goals and three assists and became the all-time assist leader in MSU history as the Red Hawks (5-5, 3-0 KLC) defeated the Richard Stockton (6-1, 2-1 KLC) for the fifth straight time.

Ryan Pettit had three goals and an assist for the Ospreys, who squandered a 10-7 lead heading into the final period.

In a quarter nearly reminiscent to last year's KLC Tournament semifinal, Richard Stockton led by three, but Montclair State climbed with a goal as Pekarsky scored 44 seconds into the period and DAVE ARMSTRONG converted an EVAN WEHMEYER pass to make the score 10-9 with 13:36 left. The Red Hawks would tie the game just over two minutes later as Gondres scored off a Pekarsky assist on a man-advantage with 11:01 left. MSU would take the lead for good with 8:34 to go as BRYAN KLIMCHAK took a perfect feed from Gondres inside five yards and fired a shot past Kyle Witty for the eventual game-winning goal.

The assist by Gondres gave him 103 for his career, breaking the mark of 102 set by Neil Blaney from 1992-94. Pekarsky then delivered the final blow, a goal with 7:27 remaining on a man-down situation.

Last year in the KLC Tournament semifinal, the Ospreys held an 8-5 lead in the final period before Montclair ripped off nine consecutive goals en route to a 14-9 victory.

The final period in this year's contest was the complete reverse of the third quarter as the Ospreys erased a 6-4 halftime deficit scoring the first five goals. Jeff Martin and A.J. Amalfe tied the game within the first 2:30 and Pettit put the Ospreys in front, 7-6 with 11:19 left. Kurt Fisher and Anthony Severino scored to push Stockton's lead to 9-6 and after a Klimchak goal, Martin scored with 66 seconds left in the period to give the Ospreys the 10-7 lead.

JAMES KOLE had three goals and Klimchak two for Montclair, which outshot the Ospreys, 39-35, including a 10-4 margin in the final period. Pekarsky had two goals and two assists. Red Hawk goalkeeper Tom Bowers was solid in goal making 15 saves for MSU while counterpart Witty was equally as tough with 17 saves.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 9 as they host four-time defending champion Stevens Tech in a 1:00 pm matchup at Sprague Field.
