Pomona, NJ (4/9/05) - Freshman righthander
CAROLYN MCCREA struck out eight allowing a run and four hits in the second game as Montclair State earned a split with Richard Stockton in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
Constance DeSalvo tossed a two hitter with 10 strikeouts in the opener as the Ospreys (16-5, 3-3 NJAC) took the first game, 1-0. The Red Hawks (13-5, 1-4 NJAC) won the second contest, 5-1.
McCrea (2-0) picked up her second win in as many starts as the Red Hawks fought back from an early 1-0 deficit. Trailing by a run, MSU took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third.
JACKIE FERRANTI doubled home run and
NICOLE PACICCO delivered two more with a double.
The Red Hawks added two more runs in the sixth.
ATHANASIA TOTARO singled home run with one out and
KARI MCDONNELL brought home the final run with an RBI single.
DANA NEVILLE finished 2-for-3 for Montclair State.
In the opener, the Ospreys got the only run in the game in the fifth as Tara Barker led off the inning with a single and pinch runner Lauren Krason advanced to third on two sacrifices. Pinch-hitter Christina Carpani then doubled, bringing home Krason with the winning run.
Totaro took the loss as she fell to 7-3. Totaro allowed three hits and one run with eight strikeouts.
