BILL ANTHES (right) scored the lone goal in the 70th minute as Montclair State blanked Mary Washington College, 1-0, in the opening round of the Blue Jay Classic held at Elizabethtown College on Saturday.
The victory vaults the Red Hawks (4-0) in the championship game on Sunday, September 11 against host Elizabethtown at 4:00pm. The Blue Jays edged Wesley (DE), 2-1 in the other opening round game. It will be the first meeting between the schools since the 1989 NCAA Division III Tournament when Elizabethtown posted a 1-0 victory.
Scoreless with 19:21 to play, Montclair State finally broke through as Anthes launched a shot off the free kick that tucked into the upper right corner of the goal for the only score of the game. It was Anthes' third goal of the season fifth career game-winning goal.

CHRIS OWEN made the lead stand up as he turned away six shots recording his second shutout of the season and 19th in his career. The shutout tied Owen with Mark Williams (1991-93) for second place on the MSU all-time shutout list. Owen is just two shy of the record held by Alex Luna (1998-2001).
Montclair State outshot Mary Washington, 14-11 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
