HEATHER ACIZ registered 25 kills and 16 digs as Montclair State came from behind to defeat DeSales University, 3-2, at the Scranton Invitational on Saturday.
Freshman
SAMANTHA KARPINSKI added 11 kills for the Red Hawks, who went 2-2 in the tournament and are now 5-5 overall. Earlier in the day, Montclair fell to York College (PA), 3-0.
DeSales won the first game, 30-17 before MSU evened the match with a 30-24 victory in Game No. 2. The Bulldogs won the third contest, 30-19, but MSU roared back to win the final two games, 30-24 and 15-12 in the decisive fifth game.
Aciz, who missed the single-match record by one kill, also added three blocks while Karpinksi had five block solos.
ZAIRY RAMOS had eight kills and 13 digs with setter
MELISSA CIACCIO recording 45 assists and 14 digs.
RAQUEL PICHARDO had 15 digs off the bench and
JANIELLE SANCHEZ posted a team-best 18 digs.
Against York, Karpinski had eight kills and Aciz six kills and 13 digs as the Spartans recorded a 31-29, 30-13, 32-30 win. Ciaccio had 21 assists and Sanchez 11 digs in the match.
The Red Hawks return home to face Richard Stockton at Panzer Gymansium on Tuesday, September 20. MSU has never beaten the Opsreys in 29 matches.
