No. 10 Montclair Edges Manhattanville in OT, 3-2

Purchase, NY (9/21/05) – Senior forward ALEXANDRIA KELLY scored the game-winner 3:25 into overtime as 10th-ranked Montclair State knocked off Manhattanville College, 3-2 on Wednesday evening.

BRISA CASAS had a goal for the Red Hawks, who are off to their second straight 6-0 start. MSU also avenged two losses to the Valiants last year, the first handing Montclair its first loss (2-1) after a 6-0 start. The second came in the opening round of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship.

Afte a scoreless half, Montclair State got on the board first as Casas fired a shot from the right side beating goalkeeper Lauren Gagnon at the 37:48 mark. ALICIA LACONTORA picked up the assist as MSU led 1-0.Kelly would extend the lead to with 13:20 to plays as she scored her third of the season.

Manhattanville would comeback as Danielle Lacroix received a pass from Dionne Jones and rifled in a shot past ROBYN APICELLI for her first goal of the season and the first allowed by Montclair State since the season opener, a span of 340:54 minutes.

The Valiants then pulled even with no time remaining off a penalty corner. Michelle Campanaro slid a pass that Jones dove and nudged home for the game-tying goal sending the game in overtime.

In the extra period, Kelly gave the Red Hawks the win as she knocked a shot in off a scramble. The goal gave Kelly her first multiple goal contest in a Red Hawk uniform.

Apicelli made five saves for MSU, which outshot Manhattanville, 20-12. Gagnon finished with a season high 14 saves as the Valiants had their 11-game home win streak snapped.

The Red Hawks are now off until Wednesday, September 28 as they travel to Scranton to face the Royals at 7:00 pm.
