KRISTIN KUHMANN made it stand up as Montclair State knocked off William Paterson, 1-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night.
Montclair State (3-4, 1-1 NJAC) has won two in row, while William Paterson (3-4, 0-2 NJAC) has dropped its last four decisions.
The Red Hawks got on the board in the 42nd minute when Pioneer junior goalkeeper Meaghan Koppel (saved a shot by Montclair State junior midfielder
DARA NALVEN. However, Koppel couldn't corral the ball and Russell was there to put a header in the back of the net.
Kuhmann stopped a barrage of Pioneer shots late in the second half to finish with nine saves and her third shutout of the season. Koppel made seven saves for William Paterson in the loss. The Pioneers held a slight edge in shots, 17-14.
The Red Hawks will stay on the road for their next contest as they will travel to Union, NJ on Saturday, September 24. Montclair State will face Kean University in a 7:00 pm kickoff.
