Montclair, NJ (9/3/05) – The MontclairState University's men's soccer team opened its 2005 campaign today in fine fashion with an 11-1 rout of Medgar Evars College at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field, in the first round of the 2005 Wellesley Inn Cup. MSU, which received goals from eight different players, is now 1-0 this fall while Medgar Evars falls to 0-1 on the year.

Morgan put Montclair up by 2-0 and 3-0 scores in a three-minute span of the first half, after MSU junior defender TODD TUMELTY scored just 1:10 into the contest. Sophomore forward MATT BEHEN finished with a goal and two assists for the Red Hawks, while senior defender MIKE HOGAN collected a goal and an assist and classmate KYLE HUGHES set up two Red Hawk scores.

Both Hogan and senior forward JESSEN VAN SYCKLE scored on penalty kicks against Medgar Evers freshman goalkeeper Kenyatta Lebruin (Brooklyn, NY), who finished with eight saves as the Red Hawks outshot the Cougars, 33-9. Seniors CHRIS OWEN and EDGARD DINTEN and freshman NICK MELE all saw time in the Montclair State net, with Owen picking up the victory and Dinten and Mele recording one save each. Junior midfielder Hugh Chin (Brooklyn, NY) scored Medgar Evers' only goal on the game, in the second half.
