Haverford, PA (9/4/05) – The Montclair State women's soccer team fell to Arcadia (PA) University, 2-1, in overtime today in the consolation game of the Haverford Kickoff Classic. Senior midfielder
JESS AMENDOLA scored MSU's lone goal as the Red Hawks fell to 0-2 on the year.
Amendola put MSU up, 1-0, at 19:16, with her first goal of the 2005 campaign, assisted by junior midfielder
DARA NALVEN. The lead held until the 88th minute of play, when Amanda Pote tied matters for the Knights off a feed from Rachel Beauchesne. Pote then won it for Arcadia on a breakaway just 5:30 into the extra session.
Junior goalkeeper
KRISTIN KUHMANN finished with two saves for Montclair State, which outshot Arcadia, 16-9, and also took four of the game's seven corner kicks. MSU also fell to Arcadia, 1-0, in last year's Haverford Kickoff Classic consolation contest before going on to win the New Jersey Athletic Conference tournament title and earn the league's automatic NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
Montclair State now faces Simmons College next Saturday, Sept. 10, at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of the Wellesley (MA) Invitational. The Red Hawks will then play either host Wellesley or Bay Path College the following day. MSU beat Bay Path by a 4-0 count in last year's NCAA first round.
