Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Tanis Sets Career Marks in 2-0 Win Over Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ (10/18/06)  –Junior forward JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) scored both goals and became the all-time scoring leader in Red Hawks history as 13th-ranked Montclair State ended its two-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over Ramapo College in NJAC action on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior KRISTEN SWARTZ (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) had two assists as she moved into the Top 10 career points list as Montclair improved to 10-3 overall this season and 3-2 in the NJAC.

Jenna Feminello (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) had 10 saves for the Roadrunners, who dropped to 5-8 overall, 0-4 in the NJAC.

Tanis collected four points in the game to give her 91 in her three years at Montclair State. Tanis entered the game just one shy of Sarah Levine's record of 88 from 2000-03. She moved past Levine just six seconds before halftime as she registered her 16th goal of the season off an assist from Swartz.

Tanis then added her NJAC-leading 17th goal with 1:20 remaining as she and Swartz connected again on the final tally.

Tanis, who has appeared in 52 games, has 36 goals and 19 assists on the season. Her 44 points are the second-highest single-season total and she also tied Levine (2001) and Lea Smith's (2000) mark for game-winners with her fifth of the year. In addition, Tanis is two goals shy of matching the single-season mark held by Laura Popes (2001) and four of tying the career mark of 40 set by Anna Wimberg from 1974-77.

Swartz' two points gave her 61 in her career as she moved into the No. 10 spot on the all-time scoring list.

Freshman goalkeeper JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made seven saves as she notched her fourth shutout of the season. The Red Hawks out shot Ramapo, 16-14 with the Roadrunners holding a 7-6 advantage in penalty corners.

MSU returns to action on Monday, October 23 as they host Eastern University at Sprague Field. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
