Montclair , NJ (10/21/06) – The Montclair State volleyball team split a pair of matches as the Red Hawks hosted their second tri-match at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. MSU (12-18) knocked off Arcadia University in three sets before falling to Eastern Connecticut State in three-sets in their second match. In the middle contest of the day, Eastern Connecticut (24-8) defeated Arcadia (9-12), 3-0 .

In the match versus Arcadia , senior HEATHER ACIZ ( Secaucus , NJ /Secaucus)  had 15 kills and eight digs as Montclair posted the straight-set victory, 30-11, 30-25 and 33-31. Freshman ANNA CHESNAKOVA ( East Brunswick , NJ / East Brunswick ) added eight kills and had five solo blocks while Kara Burham ( Moorestown , NJ / Moorestown ) added nine kills and seven digs. Sophomore SAMANTHA KARPINSKI ( Hackensack , NJ / Hackensack ) added five kills with setter ELYSE GRYWALSKI ( Mount Olive , NJ / Mount Olive ) contributing 20 assists off the bench. Freshman RAISA SILVA ( Newark , NJ / East Side ) had 12 assists and libero MEGHAN STEVENS ( Woodcliff Lake , NJ /Pascack Hills) had a team-best 15 digs.

 Alex Cann ( Mariposa , CA /Mariposa) and Sam Schad ( Exeter , PA / Exeter ) had nine kills apiece for the Knights with Kristen Kafka (Candor, NY/Candor High) adding six kills and a match-high 19 digs. Cann added three block solos while Maci Mascall ( Dayville , OR /Grant Union)  had 17 digs. Rachel Glass ( Conshohocken , PA / Plymouth Whitemarsh) recorded 22 assists for Arcadia .

In the final match of the day, Junior Emma Sousa (Coventry, CT/Coventry) had12 kills and four block assists as the Eastern Connecticut defeated Montclair, 31-29, 30-19 and 30-22. Sandra Jaques ( Milford , CT /Jonathan Law) had eight kills, 13 digs and four block assists with Lesley Mumford (Yarmouth, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) contributing seven kills. Priscilla Dougherty ( Island Park , NY / West Hempstead )  had 37 assists and eight digs.

For Montclair State , Karpinski finished with 14 kills and two blocks while KAREN MARTIN ( Sicklerville , NJ / Washington Township ) had 10 kills, two service aces and eight digs. Aciz had seven kills and 11 digs with Silva picking up 28 assists.

Eastern Connecticut began its afternoon defeating Arcadia , 30-20, 30-15 and 30-18. Sousa had 20 kills and eight digs while Jessica Keough ( Monroe , CT /Montauk)  had six kills, three service aces and six digs. Angela Loomis ( Meriden , CT /F.T. Maloney) had six kills as did Dougherty, who also added 39 assists and nine digs.

For Arcadia , Cann had eight kills with Kafka recording four and eight digs. Schad had 15 digs while Glass collected 15 assists. Mascall had 13 digs for the Knights.
