MSU Beats Rival William Paterson, 3-1

Wayne, NJ (10/3/06) – Junior JENNIFER TANIS (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson) scored once and assisted on another as seventh-ranked Montclair State bested backyard rival William Paterson, 3-1 in NJAC action at Wightman Field on Tuesday evening. The win upped MSU's record to 8-1 this season.

JUSTINE DIPAOLO (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey Township) and KRISTEN SWARTZ (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro Horsham) each had goals as the Red Hawks downed William Paterson for the second straight year and improved to 40-19-4 against their local rival.

DiPaolo gave the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead at 17:36 into the game as she collected her first career goal taking the ball down the right side before letting go of a shot from 10 yards out.

MSU took the one-goal lead into halftime and then added to it just over 10 minutes into the second half as Swartz collected her sixth of the year off a feed from Tanis.

William Paterson would cut the deficit to 2-1 less than four minutes later as Chelsea Winkelspecht (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township) notched her fourth tally of the season. Tina Londino (Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester City) assisted on the marker as the Lady Pioneers trailed by one with 20:56 to play.

Tanis however restored the lead to two goals at 65:42 with her team-leading 10th of the season, completing a breakaway past WPU goalkeeper Grace Browne (Hackensack, NJ/Hacensack).

Browne made 10 saves for the Lady Pioneers, who were outshot in the game 20-7. Freshman JACQUIE SUPKO (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made five saves for MSU, which also held a 13-7 advantage in penalty corners.

Montclair State returns to action on Thursday as its hosts the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz in a 7:00 pm matchup at Sprague Field.
