Red Hawk Trio Leads Montclair Past William Paterson

Montclair, NJ (10/3/06) – Freshman ANNA CHESNAKOVA (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) collected 16 kills while classmate Kara Burham (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) added 14 kills and five digs as Montclair State knocked off backyard rival William Paterson, 3-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Volleyball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. The Red Hawks swept the match winning 30-17, 30-22 and 30-21.

Senior HEATHER ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) added 12 kills and a match-high 23 digs for the Red Hawks, who won their second straight match and improved to 6-15 overall, 3-2 in the NJAC. The win was also MSU's first against the Lady Pioneers since a four-set win at home on September 26, 2000.

Junior Michelle Banom (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) had seven kills for the Lady Pioneers (5-12, 0-5 NJAC), who still leads the overall series between the teams, 15-10.

Sophomore SAMANTHA KARPINSKI (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) had nine kills as did freshman KAREN MARTIN (Sicklerville, NJ/Washington Township). Freshman RAISA SILVA (Newark, NJ/East Side) collected 54 assists and five digs for the Red Hawks. Libero Megan Stevens (Woodcliffe Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) had three service aces and eight digs.

For William Paterson, Tasha DelVacchio (Magnolia, NJ/Sterling) had three kills and a match-high six solo blocks. Samantha Morgan (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) had three kills and four digs while setter Dana Hansen (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) collected 11 assists. Freshman libero Samantha Reed (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) had a team-high 13 digs.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, October 7 as they will travel to William Paterson for a quad match with the Lady Pioneers. Both teams will face Wilkes University and Kings College (PA) with the matches beginning at 12:00 pm. William Paterson will first play at Centenary on Thursday, October 5 at 7:00 pm.
