Women's Basketball Tops Clarkson in Resler Tournament

Rochester, NY (11/18/06) – Junior guard JESSICA HORAN (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) had 14 points and paced four players in double figures as Montclair State knocked off Clarkson University, 81-61 in the consolation game of the Resler Tournament held at the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon.

Junior guard CYNTHIA WARRINGTON (Villas, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) had 11 points as the Red Hawks evened their record at 1-1 on the new season. Junior JESSICA GARRABRANT (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) was named to the All-Tournament Team as she had 10 points and nine rebounds in the game.

Montclair State, which never trailed in the game, moved out to a 7-3 lead in the first four minutes as Garrabrant hit a three-pointer and followed with a layup. After Clarkson cut the lead to 7-6, MSU wen on a 10- run to build a a 16-6 lead midway through the period. Garrabrant sparked the run with a three and Horan added one of her own before the Red Hawks closed out the spurt with three free throws.

Clarkson would get as close at five points, 22-17 with 8:17 to go as Adrienne Juby hit two foul shots, but Warrington's four straight points quickly boosted the lead back to 28-18 with 6:11 before halftime. MSU closed out the half with an 11-4 run to take a 43-26 lead at intermission.

Freshman JACKIE BERRY (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands Regional) came off the bench to finish with 10 points and three rebounds while CATHERINE CRISTINO (Farmingdale, NJ/Colts Neck) had eight points and seven boards. Senior forwards FERIN CATLETT (Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights) and STEPHANIE MACHIN (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) added nine and eight points, respectively.

Montclair State shot 50 percent from the field for the game (28-of-56), including 7-of-12 (58 percent) from three-point range. The Red Hawks also out rebounded Clarkson, 31-26 and shot 18-of-23 (78 percent) at the free throw line.

Juby and Amanda Coots each finished with 11 points for Clarkson, while Sarah Wesner added 10 points and a pair of rebounds.
