Red Hawks Knock Out WPU for Giancola's 100th NJAC Win

Wayne, NJ (11/4/06) – Junior quarterback MICHAEL JUMP (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) threw for 246 yards and three touchdown passes while running back RYAN MCCOACH (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) ran for 154 yards as Montclair State won its second straight game, beating backyard rival William Paterson, 44-9 at Wightman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Senior wide receiver FRED CARTER (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) pulled in two touchdown passes as the Red Hawks improved to 6-3 overall with their second straight win and 4-2 in the NJAC.

The victory was also the 100th conference win for head coach Rick Giancola, who joins TCNJ's Eric Hamilton as the only coaches in league history to reach the century mark in wins. Giancola, now in his 24th season, is 100-36 in NJAC games.

The Red Hawks rolled up a season-high 512 yards of offense compared to 183 by William Paterson. MSU now owns a 32-2-1 mark against its local rival and has won the last 13 in a row.

MSU trailed 3-0 in the first quarter as Ricky Krautman connected on a 31-yard field goal for the Pioneers. However, MSU would score the next 30 points in the game.

DAN KRAINSKI (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) recovered a fumble on a punt to set up Montclair's first score as Jump hit Carter on a 49-yard TD with 4:07 left in the first period. The Red Hawks would extend the lead in the second as Jump found Carter off a scramble for a 24-yard score and a 14-3 lead with 11:41 remaining and the lead grew to 21-3 by halftime as Jump hit A.J. LETIZIA (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) down the right sideline for a 39-yard touchdown.

In the second half BRANDON FRONJIAN (Palisades Park, NJ/Palisades Park) pulled in a 27-yard pass to set up McCoach's four-yard run as the lead expanded to 27-3 at the end of three quarters. Vin Doffont (North Arlington, NJ/St. Mary's) capped the MSU scoring run with a 30-yard field goal with 5:36 left in the fourth as Montclair built a 27-point margin.

William Paterson would get its final score Bryan Petite hit Kareen Moon for a three-yard touchdown to make the score 30-9.

Montclair State answered right back as on the first play following the kickoff, freshman running back JEFF BLISS (New Milford, NJ/New Milford) raced 56 yards down the left side for his first collegiate touchdown. Cornerback Sal McGrady (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) finished off the Red Hawks offensive output as he picked off a pass and ran 36 yards for his second touchdown of the season.

Jump finished 10-of-20 in the game before departing in the fourth quarter. McCoach carried 32 times while Bliss finished with 96 yards on eight carries. Carter had four catches while Letizia added three for 90 yards. MSU had 247 yards rushing in the game.

Defensively, McGrady and linebacker Russ Comune (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) each had six tackles while cornerback DERRICK SIMMONS (Red Bank, NJ/Monmouth Regional) recorded his 36th career pass breakup tying him Vic Mesce for the all-time record at Montclair State.
 
Petite was 13-of-29 for 111 yards and also rushed for 35 yards for William Paterson with Moon pulling in eight receptions for 71 yards.
