Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped by Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ (2/1/06) – The Montclair State women's basketball team had their six-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday as Ramapo College knocked off the first-place Red Hawks, 57-49, in NJAC action at the Bradley Center.

STEPHANIE MACHIN had 16 points for MSU, which fell to 13-7 overall and 10-3 in the NJAC. Kelly Bartz had 17 points for Ramapo, which climbed to 9-11 overall, 4-9 in NJAC play.

The Red Hawks led 28-25 at halftime, but struggled from the field in the final 20 minutes as Montclair connected on just 5-of-31 (16 percent) from the floor. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners opened the second half with a 15-0 run to turn a three-point deficit into a 12-point advantage.

MSU cut that lead in half later in the period and pull within 45-39 with 3:32 to play as CYNTHIA WARRINGTON connected on a jumper. However, two free throws by Natasha Gross and a layup by Lauren Moschel pushed the Ramapo lead back to double digits with 2:23 left.

Warrington finished with 15 points and five steals for Montclair State, which got five points and a game-best 16 rebounds from JESSICA GARRABRANT. MARIANNE MCGOVERN added seven points for the Red Hawks, who shot 17-of-59 from the field in the game.

Montclair State returns to action on Saturday, February 4 as they host the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers-Camden at 4:00 pm.
