MSU, Cal Lutheran End Up in 5-5 Tie

Thousand Oaks, CA – The Montclair State baseball team battled Cal Lutheran for 11 innings, however it was not enough to settle the issue as the Red Hawks and Kingsmen ended up in a 5-5 tie. The game was called due to dakrness.

Montclair State moved to 2-3-1 on the season while Cal Lutheran is now 6-10-1.

The Red Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. DANNY RODRIGUEZ was hit by a pitch to open the game and MICHAEL NUNES singled. BRIAN BUTLER drew a wal to load the bases and Rodriguez scored as ANDREW VICARO walked to force in the run.

Cal Lutheran would get the run back in the second, but the Red Hawk retook the lead in the third. Nunes doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning and moved to third on a ground out. Vicaro then brought home the run with a single.

Montclair State would extend the lead in the fifth with two runs. Butler doubled with one out and Vicaro followed with his own. ROB BOWNESS made it three consecutive doubles, scoring Vicaro as MSU led 4-1.

After CLU pulled within 4-3 in the sixth, Montclair pushed across a run in the seventh as MARC DECASTRO line a single to left field scoring Bowness, who singled and stole second.

Cal Lutheran would get a run in the bottom half of the inning on a home run and tied the game in the eighth with an unearned run.

Each team had their opportunities in the extra innings, but could not get the timely hit to break the deadlock.

The Red Hawks collected 14 hits in the game with six players each getting two - Rodriguez, Butler, Vicaro, Bowness, DeCastro and JAMES SCELZO.

Senior righthander JAY COOK got the start and allowed eight hits and three runs in 5 2/3 innings. Cook struck out four and walke one.
