Red Hawks Blanked by Puget Sound in California Invitational

Claremont, CA – Senior righthander Taylor Thompson stymied the Red Hawks allowing just six hits as Puget Sound blanked Montclair State, 10-0, in the California Invitational held at Claremont College on Friday afternoon. MSU was scheduled to face University of LaVerne in a second game, however, that contest was rained out.

The loss dropped Montclair State to 3-4-1 overall, 1-4-1 on their nine-game West Coast trip.

The Loggers (5-10) were able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning when Sean Bayha drove in Tanner Webber with a sacrifice fly to center field.   Puget Sound picked up four more in the third and single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Thompson allowed just six hits, all singles and had one two runners reach second base in the game. He struck out eight and walked two.

TIM STRINGER (0-2) took the loss for Montclair State. DANNY RODRIGUEZ, THOMAS MEYER, MICHAEL NUNES, LOU POLITAN, ROB BOWNESS and MATT HARTWICK comprised the six hits for the Red Hawks.

Montclair State closes out its West Coast Trip on Saturday, March 18 with a pair of games. The Red Hawks face Menlo (CA) and Whittier in the California Invitational.
