Men's Lacrosse Tops Kean

Montclair, NJ (3/23/06) – Sophomore attackman BRYAN KLIMCHAK scored six goals and added three assists as Montclair State knocked off local rival Kean University, 14-8, in Knickerbocker Men's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Thursday evening.

TYLER MEIXNER added three goals and an assist for the Red Hawks, who moved back over the .500 mark at 4-3 overall and in the KLC. Dennis Lukacsko had three goals for the Cougars, who fell to 3-3 overall, 0-1 in the conference.

Montclair State built a 4-1 lead after the first period. A.J. Bachman put the Red Hawks on the board with 8:39 left, however Kean would answer as Dan Mondino netted the first of his two goals just over two minutes later. MSU would close out the period scoring three times. Klimchak tallied his first score 16 seconds after the Mondino goal as Montclair took advantage of a man-up situation. Meixner extended the lead to 3-1 with 1:57 to play and Klimchak closed out the period with his second at the 14:40 mark of the period.

Klicmchak and Meixner scored 33 seconds apart in the second quarter to make the score 6-1. Kean would cut the deficit to four on a Dennis Novello goal with 11:21 to play. Bachman countered with his second of the game with 6:50 to go before halftime and Ed Carswell notched a goal with 3:06 remaining as Montclair State took an 8-2 lead into intermission.

In the second half, Lukacsko scored 1:45 into the period to pull Kean within 8-3, but Carswell and Klimchak each scored to boost Montclair State's lead back to 10-3 with 8:09 left.

DAN CUFF made 10 saves in goal while his counter part Dave Nichols made 13 stops.

Bachman and Carswell each finished with two goals while DAVE ARMSTRONG posted a goal and six assists. EVAN WEHMEYER was 10-of-14 on faceoffs and registered eight ground balls with defenseman Ken Weinraub added four ground balls and five caused turnovers.

Mike Tanis had a goal and eight faceoff wins for the Cougars. Defenseman Chris Benz had six ground balls and a game-high six caused turnovers.

Montclair State heLd a 45-27 advantage in shots.

The Red Hawks return to action on Sunday, March 26 as they host Muhlenberg at Sprague Field at 2:00 pm. Kean is at Eastern University (PA) on Saturday, March 25 in a 1:00 pm start.
